Reinstating the riverside route
Historically the distance between Barking and Ilford along the River Roding would have been accessible as a public right of way. Now it’s a mysterious ‘lost’ landscape of varied habitats, featuring a magnificent oak tree albeit disconnected from the local area by the North Circular Motorway. The River Roding Trust wants to reinstate the old right of way along the river opening up a new route for London and developing this natural space for public enjoyment.
What currently exists of a path has been maintained with benches erected and access to the rudimentary track to Ilford improved. Thanks to great community effort, works are ongoing to make this riverside walk an established reality.
